An emergency landing was made by a small plane in Kennebunk last month. Staff at Sanford Airport were notified that the plane was in trouble when it was three miles from Sanford.

Due to engine failure the plane needed to make an emergency landing. Portland Airport could no longer make contact with the plane. The plane eventually landed safely in a field roughly one mile and a half from Sanford and three miles from Sanford Airport.

Neither of the two people on board the plane were injured. Tim Campbell and Bob Irving were then questioned and looked over by emergency personnel. Firemen were called from Sanford to the scene. Sherry Lord of Sanford Airport also attended the scene.

Irving spoke of hearing a loud bang before the cockpit was packed with smoke. The pilot decided that Sanford Airport was too far away to try land there. Irving has full faith in the abilities of his mentor Campbell to land the plane. He said the experience had not put him off flying.

Times are tough and the recession is really starting to bite but how far would you go to get some free fuel for your Sanford car hire? I’d wager not quite as far as Orlando resident David Partin.

In exchange for a $100 petrol voucher, Partin agreed to name his son (due to be born in December) after 2 local radio hosts. Partin must produce a birth certificate in order to collect his winnings. The name of the baby – Dixon Willoughby Partin. I think this kid is going to have some tough questions for daddy when he is older.

As the cost of fuel continues to affect the lives of Americans around the country many organizations are doing their best to come up with fuel saving competitions.

The American Red Cross is holing a raffle where donors could win up to a year’s supply of petrol. A small parish in Massachusetts is running drawing competitions at weekly masses with $50 fuel vouchers on offer for the winner.

Remember to read our post on petrol saving tips if you decide to avail of our car hire Sanford service.

• Shop around for the best value station to fill your hire car. A good option to consider is Sam’s and BJ’s Wholesale Club. This budget operator offers considerable savings for petrol costs.
